Never Alone

Read Haggai 1:1 through 2:23

Published: Aug 24, 2017

Charles Austin Miles was a pharmacist, amateur photographer, and songwriter. One day in 1912, he sat in a quiet, dark room reading the account of Jesus’ resurrection. Suddenly, the Holy Spirit impressed on his heart the image of Mary Magdalene at the tomb encountering the risen Lord. That same day, Miles wrote the words of a now-familiar hymn: “I come to the garden alone . . . And He walks with me, and He talks with me.”

Then Haggai, the Lord’s messenger, gave this message of the Lord to the people: “I am with you,” declares the Lord (Haggai 1:13).

Haggai and the returning exiles had a big job to do in rebuilding of the temple. However, God reminded them of something that has been a source of strength and encouragement for believers through the centuries: they were not alone. God was protecting them, guiding them, and restoring their souls.

As a child of God, it’s good to know you are never really alone. Through every trial and triumph, He whispers: “I am with you.”

Thought for Today: Stay with Jesus and He will stay with you.

Quicklook: Haggai 1:7–15
