Increase Our Faith

Read 1 Kings 1:1 through 3:28; Luke 16:19 through 17:10

The road through the town of Ashford, Washington, leads to the magnificent area called “Paradise” on the southern slope of Mount Rainier. A large sign on the side of Faith Baptist Church arrests people’s attention with its double meaning: “To get to Paradise, you must come by Faith.” Christians who drive by and see that sign smile and nod in agreement.

There are lots of things the disciples could have asked of Jesus: Increase our love. Increase our income. Increase our standing in the community. But that is not what they asked for.

The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!” (Luke 17:5).

People need faith to receive and maintain salvation. Faith is needed as a shield in fighting the enemy. Faith is one of the few things called precious in the Bible. Faith is a gift from God that unlocks the storeroom of God’s power and blessings. Without faith it is impossible to please God.

Prayer Suggestion: Do as the disciples did and pray, “Lord, increase our faith.”

Quicklook: Luke 17:1–10
