Our History and Beliefs

Our History

The History of New Franklin Assembly of God in Chambersburg PA

Founding and Early Years (1957–1969): The church’s journey began in June 1957 as the New Franklin Full Gospel Tabernacle. For twelve years, it operated as an independent fellowship before officially affiliating with the Assemblies of God USA in June 1969. This move connected the congregation to a global Pentecostal movement focused on fulfilling the Great Commission.
  • Investing in the Next Generation (1974): Recognizing a vital need for youth discipleship, the church established the Royal Rangers (for boys) and Girls Ministry programs. These foundational programs continue today and are designed to mentor children in leadership and biblical values.
  • Era of Expansion (1974–1988): Rapid congregational growth necessitated a larger physical footprint. Planning for a major expansion began in 1974, culminating in the 1979 completion of a new sanctuary, additional classrooms, and the church’s iconic tower. By 1988, the church continued to evolve, renovating the Family Activity Center to better serve the community’s recreational and fellowship needs.
  • Modern Development (1990–Present): A major milestone was reached in 1990 with the addition of the current sanctuary, reflecting the church's continued vitality.
  • Today, the church continues its mission in the Chambersburg, PA, area, offering weekly worship and Sunday School that support spiritual growth and community connection.

Our Beliefs

We are an Assemblies of God (AG) church in Chambersburg PA

The AG  is a global Pentecostal fellowship committed to proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ and living out the power of the Holy Spirit. The AG is one of the largest Protestant denominations in the world, with churches in over 190 countries.

The Assemblies of God is rooted in evangelical theology and emphasizes:
  • The authority of Scripture
  • Salvation through faith in Jesus Christ
  • The baptism in the Holy Spirit
  • Divine healing
  • Christ’s return
AG churches are mission-driven, community-focused, and committed to Christ-centered, Spirit-led worship. While united in core doctrine, each local church operates autonomously under biblical leadership, allowing ministries to serve their communities effectively while remaining connected to a larger global fellowship.  Through local outreach, church planting, global missions, and compassionate ministries, the Assemblies of God seeks to fulfill its mission: to evangelize the lost, worship God, disciple believers, and show Christ’s love in practical ways.
